As an indispensable supporting role of life, paper towel can be seen almost everywhere. With the gradual improvement of quality of life, people are paying more and more attention to whether tissues are environmentally friendly and whether they have additives. So bamboo paper towels are becoming increasingly popular among the public. Bamboo grows rapidly and has strong renewability, making it a sustainable resource. In the process of making bamboo pulp paper, due to the relatively hard and straight fiber structure of bamboo, the produced paper is often more flexible and has strong water absorption. In addition, the production process of bamboo pulp paper causes relatively little environmental damage because it does not require the felling of large trees, thereby reducing the ecological problems caused by deforestation. So how is an environmentally friendly and healthy bamboo pulp paper made?
Step 1: Air dry bamboo
Select tall and slender bamboo, cut off the branches and leaves of the bamboo, cut the bamboo into sections, and transport it to the material yard. Clean the bamboo slices with clean water, remove sediment and impurities, and transport them to the stacking yard for natural air drying for 3 months to remove excess water for later use.
Step 2: Collection and processing of bamboo
Bamboo is a plant in bamboo forests, and its collection and processing are the first steps in bamboo papermaking. The best time to collect bamboo is during the dry bamboo season, as the moisture content of bamboo is lower at this time, which can reduce the drying time during the later processing. Some large processing plants directly pick short bamboo from bamboo forests or purchase long bamboo poles from farmers for initial processing, such as peeling or cutting into sections.
Step 3: Pulp making
Processing bamboo into pulp raw materials is the second step in bamboo papermaking. Processing plants usually use mechanical crushing methods to chop bamboo, and then undergo further processing steps such as crushing, screening, washing, etc., to finally obtain bamboo pulp. Bamboo pulp is the main raw material for bamboo papermaking, and the quality of pulp has a crucial impact on the quality of papermaking products.
Step 4: Paper making
After obtaining bamboo pulp, the next step is to convert it into paper. Large processing plants usually use continuous paper machines for papermaking operations. The basic principle is to evenly cover the slurry on the mesh, use mechanical energy to forcibly fix the fibers on the paper, and complete the entire papermaking process through subsequent steps such as calendering and drying.
Step 5: Production of tissue paper
After bamboo pulp is converted into paper, it undergoes a series of processing and ultimately becomes the tissue we use in our daily lives.
Bamboo papermaking is a promising pulp and paper making process. Using bamboo fiber paper towels can not only protect one’s own and family’s health, but also protect the environment and maintain forest resources. It is one of the main directions for future environmental protection and sustainable pulp and paper production.
